Robert Maynor, M.D.
Robert C. Maynor, Jr., M.D. grew up in Jackson, Mississippi and received his Medical Doctorate Degree from the University of Mississippi. He completed his internship at Parkland Memorial Hospital, the University of Texas in Dallas, and completed his ophthalmic surgery residency at the University of Alabama in Huntsville, Alabama. Dr. Maynor served as a U.S. Air Force Flight Surgeon prior to beginning his private practice in ophthalmic surgery in Huntsville, Alabama over thirty years ago.

Dr. Maynor is Board Certified in Ophthalmology and is certified by the American College of Eye Surgeons in Cataract Surgery. He has authored articles and conducted seminars in ophthalmic surgical technique and he also introduced many advances in ophthalmic surgery to North Alabama and the Tennessee Valley, including laser eye surgery (Argon and YAG), small incision no-stitch cataract surgery, intraocular lens implant, corneal transplants, laser trabeculoplasty for glaucoma, ophthalmic plastic surgical procedures, and retinal detachment and retinal laser surgery.
Dr. Maynor served as a Chief of Surgery at Humana Hospital, Chief of Staff at Crestwood Hospital, and Secretary of the American Board of Eye Surgeons. He served for fifteen years on the Alabama Medical Licensure Commission and currently serves on the State Health Planning Commission.
William Mitchell, M.D.
In 1999, Dr. William Mitchell joined Dr. Robert Maynor in private practice, forming the Maynor & Mitchell Eye Center. A native of Auburn, Alabama, Dr. Mitchell attended medical school at the University of Alabama in Birmingham. He then completed a residency in ophthalmology at the University of Tennessee at Memphis.
Dr. Mitchell is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, and the International Society of Refractive Surgery.
Dr. Mitchell is known for always staying on the cutting edge of technology in the area of cataract surgery, using the most modern techniques available today. In fact, he’s the first in the area to use the breakthrough Crystalens® intraocular lens for post-cataract clear vision treatment. His extensive experience, together with an unparalleled commitment to offering the latest in procedures and technology to his patients in a caring and personalized environment, has made him one of the most sought-after eye care physicians in the area.
Michael Salter, M.D.
Dr. Michael Salter joined Maynor & Mitchell Eye Center in 2016 and has quickly become one of the busiest glaucoma surgeons in the state. A native of Birmingham, Alabama, Dr. Salter received his undergraduate degree from The University of Alabama and attended medical school at The University of Alabama School of Medicine (UAB). He then completed a residency in ophthalmology at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences and then went on to complete an additional 1 year fellowship in surgical glaucoma at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences.
Dr. Salter is an accomplished cataract and glaucoma surgeon that was trained in state of the art micro-invasive surgical and laser techniques to effectively treat glaucoma and cataracts. He routinely performs more of these type procedures than anyone else in North Alabama. These minimally invasive procedures include: i-Stent, Hydrus Stent, Ab-interno Canaloplasty (ABiC), Gonioscopy Ab-Interno Trabeculoplasty (GATT procedure), Kahook Duel Blade Goniotomy, Xen gel stent, and MicroPulse Transscleral Cyclophotocoagulation (mTSCPC). Dr. Salter also has the ability to combine these minimally invasive glaucoma procedures with the latest technology in cataract surgery, including laser assisted cataract removal along with laser vision correction
Jonathan K. Ramsey, M.D.
Dr. Ramsey joined Maynor & Mitchell Eye Center in 2018. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Lipscomb University in Nashville, TN and his Medical Doctorate from The Ohio State University. He completed his residency in ophthalmology at The Ohio State University, where he was elected chief resident.
Dr. Ramsey provides comprehensive ophthalmology services with a focus in cataract and refractive surgery. He has presented his research on predicting vision after cataract surgery at the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons meeting.
Alexander Talalight, M.D.
A native of Russia, Dr Talalight moved to the United States 30 years ago, having studied in England prior to that. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from Liberty University in Lynchburg, VA, where he was named the Biology Student of the Year in 1997. Following that, he engaged in laboratory research in immunology, biochemistry and infectious diseases at UAB in Birmingham, AL.
Dr. Talalight earned his medical degree at the University of Alabama School of Medicine, where he was the recipient of numerous awards, including the Charles Selah award for excellence in surgery. He then completed ophthalmology residency training at UAB and vitreoretinal fellowship at the Retina Specialists of Alabama and Helen Keller Foundation in Birmingham, AL.
Dr. Talalight joined Retina Centers of Alabama in Huntsville 2011. He specializes in treating diseases of the retina and vitreous, including macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy and retinal detachments. Dr. Talalight performs eye surgery at Crestwood Hospital and Huntsville Hospital.
Dr. Talalight is a Board-Certified Ophthalmologist and a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and American Society of Retina Specialists. He serves on Madison County Medical Society Board of Trustees.
Dr. Talalight has an academic appointment as a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Alabama School of Medicine, teaching medical students and residents. In addition, he serves as a Clinical Instructor at the Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine, and Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine.
Dr. Talalight and his wife Erin have 4 children. They love parks and mountains and are involved at their local church.
John Eitzen, M.D.
Dr. Eitzen was born and raised in Birmingham, AL. A graduate of Auburn University with a degree in Chemistry, Dr. Eitzen received his medical degree from the University of Alabama School of Medicine (UAB). He performed an internal medicine internship and completed a residency in ophthalmology at UAB and the Eye Foundation Hospital.
In 1990, he entered active duty in the United States Air Force and participated in Operation Desert Storm, where his unit built and operated the largest medical evacuation facility in the Gulf War theatre. While deployed, he served as advisor for Ophthalmology to the CENTAF Surgeon General.
After his military service, Dr. Eitzen received additional residency training at LSU and Ochsner Clinic Foundation and completed a cornea fellowship at Tulane University. He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
Dr. Eitzen enjoys sports, music, good conversation, and good books.
Jennifer Martin, O.D.
Dr. Martin began her career in Optometry in 1995 when she joined the practice of Dr. Robert Maynor here in Huntsville. She is a native of Fyffe, Alabama and attended Evangel University in Springfield, Missouri where she received her Bachelor of Science degree. She then went on to earn her Doctorate of Optometry degree from the University of Alabama in Birmingham School of Optometry.

For the past 19 years, Dr. Martin has served North Alabama and its surrounding areas as a primary eye care physician. She evaluates and treats a vast array of eye conditions, provides routine family eye care, and fits many types of specialty contact lenses including: bifocals/multifocals, rigid gas permeables, astigmatism correcting/toric lenses, scleral lenses, and corneal refractive therapy (CRT) lenses.
Dr. Martin resides in Huntsville along with her husband Scott and their three children.
Brian Baxter, O.D.
Dr. Baxter was born and raised in Huntsville, AL. He attended Lipscomb University in Nashville, TN where he received his Bachelors of Science degree in Biology and Chemistry. He then went on to attend the Southern College of Optometry where he received his Doctor of Optometry degree with the class of 2000.
He completed his National Boards in Philadelphia, PA, then went on to complete his training in the area of ocular disease in Virginia. He is an active member of the American Optometric Association, the Alabama Optometric Association, and the American Diabetes Association. He was elected by his peers to serve two terms as President of the North Alabama Optometric Society, as well as serving terms as both Vice President and Treasurer. Dr. Baxter spent a number of years in private practice, then went on to serve as the Center Director for a large multi-specialty vision and surgical facility. He joined our practice in 2009, and specializes in the treatment and management of diseases of the eye, with an emphasis on diabetes. Other aspects of his practice include working with PCP’s to monitor patients who are taking high-risk medications, as well as the diagnosis and treatment of glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration, dry eyes, hypertensive eye disease, and other disorders of the eye. Dr. Baxter is also actively involved in the pre/post-operative care of our patients who require surgery. He primarily serves at our main clinic in Huntsville, but also travels to our Guntersville location. Dr. Baxter resides in Huntsville, AL with his wife Kacey and their four kids. He is actively involved in his church, and is passionate about serving in missions, CASA, and at the Community Free Clinic. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his family, music, traveling, fitness, running, hiking, and camping.
Gina Scott, O.D.
Dr. Scott was born and raised in Arab, AL. She has been serving the eye care needs of patients locally since 1999. Dr. Scott attended the University of Alabama for her undergraduate study, and she received her Doctor of Optometry degree from the University of Alabama in Birmingham School of Optometry. She is a member of the Alabama Optometric Association and American Optometric Association.
Dr. Scott is married and has three children. She has had the opportunity to travel on medical mission trips to Haiti and Zimbabwe, and treats children with vision needs at the HEALS clinic.
Stephen E. Solomon, D.O.
Stephen Solomon received his medical degree from Nova Southeastern University - College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1986, then went on to complete a residency in ophthalmology at SUNY Health Science Center at Brooklyn from 1987 to 1990. He started practicing in the field in 1991. Over the years, Dr. Solomon has achieved a state medical license in eleven states but is currently certified to practice in Alabama, New York, and California.
Dr. Solomon is a leader in the field of ophthalmology and he participates in treatment trials to help advance it. He is currently participating in three trials: the role of IL6 inhibitors as a monotherapy or as adjunct therapy in relapse rate in NMO or NMO spectrum disease, early intervention rituximab for new-onset myasthenia gravis, and steroid-sparing temporal arteritis. Dr. Solomon holds membership with the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Association of Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus.
